It’s a rainy day on the east coast—perfect for storytelling so I thought I ought to take this time to share with you a little bit about the 3 biggest lessons that I have learned along my personal development journey.
<< grab a tea/coffee (or cocktail) and settle in! >>
I have learned that there are 3 things you need to create a life you love. Back in 2013, from the outside it looked like I had it “all figured out”—the house, the career, the hubby. But inside I was miserable. I felt stuck. I would wake up in the middle of the night stricken with panic attacks, feeling stressed out and overwhelmed that I wasn’t living my purpose.
LESSON 1 – There is power in the realization that the life you are living needs to change. It can be painful but it creates a catalyst to begin figuring out what is holding you back. Start identifying the blocks and obstacles that keep getting in your way. Don’t judge yourself, just begin to raise your awareness. You can’t change something that you don’t know needs to change.
While change doesn’t happen overnight, the decision to change can come in an instant. I was tired of just going through the motions in my life, I wanted to become more of me. The trouble was, I didn’t know where to start. Have you ever felt that way—like you are living below your potential? Feeling bored with where you are in life, knowing that you want more but just not knowing where to start?
LESSON 2 – Not only is it important to listen to yourself but you have to make time to listen. When I filled my life to the brim with busy-ness and “to-do’s” I never had time to visual changes in my life or begin to listen to what I actually wanted. Putting time and space into my calendar for me lead to more clarity. When I turned down the volume of all of my “have-to-do’s,” only then was I able to turn UP the volume on the “what-I-WANT-to-do’s.”
Over time I have learned that the 3 things you need to create a life you love are:
1. Figuring out what is holding you back
2. Stepping into the clarity of listening to yourself and knowing what you want
3. Creating an action plan to step into achieving your goals
LESSON 3 – Wanting something to be different isn’t what create momentum in your life. It’s in taking action to MAKE it different that matters the most. In the past, I would try to jump into action on making changes out of feeling frustrated. I was skipping an essential step—clarity. Taking the time to get clear about who I was and what I wanted gave me the confidence to create an action plan to achieve my goals.
If life had taught us anything so far, it’s that change doesn’t happen overnight. Transformation happens over time, with guidance, effort, and insight. When we have the right tools and the right support we can stay accountable to making the changes that we said that we wanted to make.
In my experience, it’s been a journey to design a life that I love and it’s been worth every step. My journey has been the inspiration for my business, my book, and the life that I have created. Being able to own my time, feel confident about my life and make an impact in the work that I do is truly living my purpose.
