Today is the day where we talk about another secret ingredient of the recipe behind success… We’ve been led to believe that what makes major people successful is a particular formula or recipe. Other times, we hear that success only comes when we’ve set the “right goal.”

Here’s the deal–success only arrives when you identify the roadblock that had been holding you back. That. Is. It. Seriously, if we knew how to do what we want to do, we would do it. Instead, we get stopped by not knowing what is stopping us. And… even more tricky is the idea that we certainly know WHY we aren’t accomplishing our goals (we are too lazy, or we don’t have time, or we don’t have money or… or… or…) and we simply accept those blocks as permanent or outside of our influence or power.

What is the block or obstacle that gets in your way time and time again? Where do you find yourself held back from achieving your goals? Do you ever find that the biggest thing standing between where you want to be and where you are now is…you?

Mind blown. Most people think the success of goal achievement is in setting big fancy goals, the truth is–it starts with getting out of your own way first. BIG step today–let’s identify the blocks and obstacles that have been standing in your way.

Here’s a list of some of the top potential roadblocks, do any of these barriers sound familiar to you:

  1. I don’t know HOW to do it.

  2. I CAN’T do it.

  3. I don’t have the time.

  4. I don’t have the support.

  5. It’s already been DONE before.

  6. Someone can do it BETTER than me.

  7. Who am I to think that I can do this?

  8. I’m not _____ enough to do it. (insert here: smart, well-known, old, rich, nice, accomplished, popular, or the worst one of them all–“good enough”)

We’ve all got them, the little reasons in our head…

Your task for today is to write down all of the roadblocks that have kept you away from achieving the particular goal that you are working on, and then, post those roadblocks to the Facebook group.

I like to think of it as the teacher’s voice from the cartoon, Charlie Brown. WAH WAH WAH WAH…our head is just filled with noise talking smack on us, holding us back, and never making us feel “good” enough to really go after it.

News flash: your brain is not your friend. You brain is programmed to keep the status quo… to stay alive and not to take any risks. If it were up to your brain, you’d be on an iv drip of fluids and watching the price is right all day with 10 of your best friends all having a great time and accomplishing exactly nothing.

The sooner you realize the above, the sooner you can train your brain that risk and reward are fun, and interesting, and fun!

I once had a client who called the negative noise in her head, “the itty bitty shitty committee.” Damn, was she right. The hard but oh-so-real truth is the same head noise will get in our way time and time again unless we create awareness around the noise and start to demystify it.

It’s called the self-talk cycle and you can find out all about it in my book, Own Your Power, available on Amazon. Here’s how the self-talk cycle works:

Today is the day to get out of your own way, take a look at your own self-talk cycle–how can you shift your internal dialogue to make a change in the way you feel and the way you take action in your life.

Use this momentum to take action TODAY–work on your steps, do another 10% of the total work you need to do, and pat yourself on the back, you’ve only got 20% left to go!
