Ambition can be both the problem AND solution for driven women. Our ambition, zeal, and excitement can put us from a place of inspiration and then send us straight into the hell of overwhelm.
In overwhelm we freeze. We get totally stuck and frozen solid. Damn, it’s frustrating.
It’s frustrating because we have so much to give, so much to share, and so many ways to make a difference. But sometimes, when we have a multitude of ideas floating around, that’s just what they do—float without ever taking shape and moving into something real.
We think about all the ways we want to make a change and be of service in this world but all of those ideas just bring us overwhelm from the place of “coulda, woulda, and shoulda.” Again, not helpful.
When we have lots of fantastic ideas, often we can’t seem to pick which one comes first. The chicken or the egg. What needs to happen to get the ball rolling so that all of the other ideas can seamlessly make their way into place.

That’s right, we roll up our sleeves and create a roadmap to make it happen.
Here are three easy steps to get ‘unstuck’:
1. Brain Dump: Much like a brainstorm, in a brain dump, we take pen to paper and write down every idea (fabulous or just ehh). Make yourself a cup of tea and take 30 mins to an hour to write everything that has been speaking to you about your business (we’ll get to life later…that happens to be my specialty).
2. Consider the time commitment: Get fancy, bust out three different color highlighters. In the first color, highlight everything that could take you 10 minutes or less. These are the super simple tasks that wouldn’t take much effort. In the next color, highlight each task that is a bit more time consuming, maybe an hour or two. These can even be tasks that might potentially rely on other people. Finally, using your last highlighter, identify the tasks that are actually projects. Things that would take half a day, week, or month to complete.
3. Prioritize: Sometimes the egg really does come before the chicken. Examine your list to find out what needs to happen first, second, and so forth. You might even find some “outlier” ideas, these are ideas that don’t really fit the master plan and can sit on the shelf for a rainy day.
Stepping out of overwhelm and into flow puts you back into the driver’s seat of feeling in control and knowing that you make things happen.
